Analysis of Routine ENT Preoperative Assessment Using Korean National Health Insurance Database

Background and Objectives Preoperative assessment is one of the most important fields in surgery anesthesia as it can reduce morbidity mortality from detect abnormal findings not clinically observed through preoperative examination. However, excessive non-vital routine tests have been criticized. The aim study to investigate current use elective evaluations using otorhinolaryngologic covering patients all ages with various levels difficulty.Subjects Method Using Korean National Health Insurance Service Sample Cohort data, we investigated 98890 subjects who underwent during year 2018. We evaluated sociodemographic characteristics, clinical medical institutions, operation characteristics analyzed detail their blood urine test items, sonographic exams pulmonary function tests.Results There were differences implementation tests, according types locations institutions. Old age, low socioeconomic status, comorbid condition, high Charlson’s Comorbidity Index, tertiary hospital factors that increased evaluation tests.Conclusion Appropriate needed for predicting preparing possibility treatment complications well improving quality while reducing costs perioperative management.
